Things To Do

Andalucia is rich in things to see or do, but we will concentrate on things to do within 15 to 45 minutes of our Bed and Breakfast, El Picadero.

El Hacho 10 mins away

The mountain, El Hacho is 559 metres high and the views from the top are simply breathtaking. If the full hike up the mountain is a bit too energetic for you, there are three hills at the base of the mountain, one of which is crowned with a Moorish Castle

 

 

El Chorro 15 mins away

There are three breathtaking lakes, surrounded by deep pine forests. These were created by building a dam across the River Gorge and the massive structure is known as “Garganta del Chorro” We can arrange picnics or packed lunches, as once you have arrived at El Chorro, you’ll want to stay for the day. It’s a haven for climbing, hiking, biking, photography, bird watching, swimming, walking and fishing.

 

The Health Spa at Carratraca 25 minutes away

The Hot sulphuric springs have been famous since Roman times for their healing waters and although the baths are only open at certain times of the year, the drive through the breathtaking countryside, through the olive and almond groves is worth the effort alone!

 

 

The Burial Chambers at Antequera 35 mins away

The Town of Antequera is famous for it’s “Dolmens”. These are 5000 year old burial chambers, made with huge slabs of rock, that were constructed by the original Iberian people.

 

 

 

The Lake at Fuente de Piedra 40 mins away

This is one of the largest natural lakes in Spain and is known as the “Pink Lagoon”, as it is one of the favourite stop-off spots for migrating Pink Flamingos.

 

 

Ronda 45 mins away

Ronda is one of the most captivating towns in Andalucia. It is well known for the plunging river gorge that separates the medieval from the 18th century parts of the town.

 

 

 

These are only a selection of the dozens of attractions in the immediate area and the thousands of attractions in Andalucia.

Shopping

Although the majority of visitors to Andalucia, don’t come to enjoy shopping sprees, a 40 minute drive to the coast will take you to a shopper’s paradise! There is every kind of shop, supermarket, hypermarket, and market that you can imagine. The prices are invariably less expensive than you will find in other parts of Europe. There are even various boot fairs available, many of which are the size of eight football pitches!

Sports

Angling - Fishing in rivers, lakes and dams in Andalucía is popular, where trout, pike and black bass are found.

Ballooning - Hot air ballooning, the peaceful way to see the countryside. Take a pleasure flight or learn to fly a balloon

Bird Watching - Andalucia is at the very south of Europe and is on the Europe / Africa migration routes of many birds.

Boating & Yachting
- The cleanliness of its waters and the warm climate make this coast a popular place in which to enjoy water sports.

Golf – We have two quality golf courses within half an hour of El Picadero, although they are only two of the 60 golf courses in Andalucia

Green Bowls
– Although there are no village greens in the local villages, there are plenty of bowling clubs on the Costa del Sol, which is only 30 minutes by car or rail.

Horse Riding - The horse is an integral part of rural life in Andalucia. Farms, riding schools, manèges and stables provide riding lessons or simply hire horses for riding.

Hunting & Shooting - Among developed countries Andalucía is one of the regions with the largest amount of big game

Mountain Biking - Acres and acres of open ground. A biker's paradise.

Tennis - There is no shortage of places to play tennis in Andalucia.

Walking - as a leisure activity is practiced for many reasons the more usual being for enjoying the scenery

Water Sports - Andalucia has over 800km of coastline, both Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. Sailing, Motor boating, Rowing, Canoeing, Windsurfing, Surfing, Snorkelling, Diving, Deep-sea fishing.

Eating Out

Andalucian cuisine is amongst the most nutritious in the World. Freshly caught Mediterranean fish, traditional ham sausage, game dishes, vegetable and meat stews, not to mention the wonderful salads and chilled soups, all made from fresh local produce, are the order of the day. We will be happy to recommend places to enjoy Andalucian cuisine locally, although a trip to Malaga in the evening will offer you countless restaurants numerous cuisines, from Spanish or French, through to Chinese and Indian.
